SUTC

Hi Hawk,

SUTC is over! I hope that you can draw many many important lessons from this training camp and also that you become physically and mentally stronger. SUTC is one of the most challenging camps in 01, so do not fret if you find the camp tough because it is made to be that tough. The next major camp coming up will be AC aka Annual Camp. Not a training camp but more of a leisure camp. AC will be in coming June Holidays. Although SUTC is over, I still hope that you all maintain the appropriate standards during normal Monday and Wednesday acts.

P.S Arif please remember to pay me the $60 thx

Cheers,
Edison

SUTC Packlist

Hi Hawk,

Please remember to check your emails for the SUTC packlist. If you did not receive it, email me to alert me. My email is goh.edison@hotmail.com. So yeah, do go for SUTC because its a very enriching and fun experience.

Last thing, please remember to do the plogs assigned to you. Most of you have only 2 plogs to do, so don't start complaining and just adhere to the dateline Hanyao and I have given to you. If the dateline is not met, there will be serious consequences.

PLOGS WEEK :)

Hi Hawk,

Now that Plogs have to be done every term, Han Yao and I have come up with a new initiative called Plogs Week! *clap clap*! So anyways, Plogs Week will occur one week or two before the end of the term. The reason why we don't struggle to chase down everyone for plogs every week is that its very time consuming and not fun for me or you. So during Plogs Week, I expect 100% adherence to the dateline. No excuses. If it doesn't work out, we can always do the "chase everyone for plogs every act" kind of thing. So this is a privilege and i hope everyone in Hawk does not abuse it.

OOOOORRRIIEENNTTAAATION

ORIENTATION FOR SEC 1s!!!!! Todays act was held on a saturday. Everyone woke up early and met at the Gym Hall Atrium  exactly at 8 am. Firstly, we headed off to the seminar rooms for the STORYLINE :O The first clip showed and introduced the GC members as the Fantastic 9, and of course, the SU as the Silver Unit. It was actually rather amusing especially Raga as the Dark Lord. *ahem ahem* pun. Firstly, we had to find some clues and catch the relevant J1s. Hawk was jacked many many many many times until we got some correct. By jacking, i mean like walking around the atrium saying I LOVE RUILIANG many times for his boost of ego. Then, we when back to the seminar room for the briefing for the next activity which required us to finish 36 different tasks. Hawk went to RJ and did many random things. (eg. Joshua proposing to the cleaner since she was applicable to "propose to a girl in RJ" task.). Simply put it, Joshua has the hots for the cleaner. Then, we went back to seminar room for the briefing on War Games. It was very fun and the KEH alliance won the OFK alliance. Yay. We then had the finale with was PL Punishment *cry cry*. We the PLS got bombed by an entire assault troop group called the SU. Then the J1s helped us more by throwing other variations of bombs which had nasty substances in it. Egg, soya sauce, coffee and some white gooey stuff was in the bombs. The PLs ended up very nasty smelling.

I can assure you that we PLs will get our revenge soon enough teehee, especially during SUTC when we poison your food with anthrax.

Then act ended on a happy note for the SU and not so much for the PLs :'(

Induction :O

This act was a rather significant one since its the first official act for the sec 1s!!! *clap clap*. The main aim for todays act was to know the patrol better :D. Firstly, we had some IceBreakers to introduce ourselves to the secondary 1s. OKAY, today we finally found out their proper names. We have Arif, Vasu and Rafe :D The IceBreakers were quite fun, playing games like Wacko and Twin Towers. After IceBreakers, the J1s and PLs taught the sec 1s how to cheer in 01 and the different types of cheers. We had station games next. For our first station, we had to find 3 out of 6 cups hidden in the lockers of junior block atrium. Hawk VS Owl again and we totally pwn them. YAY. We learnt some basic history of scouting and played the game broken telephone. Then, we went to the Gym hall atrium field for the next activity in which we had to pass a tennis ball with just our head and necks one round. Failcon patrol used the water bottle which was supposedly easier but they failed lol. The last station was Campfire Songs. Joshua and I taught the sec 1s the songs. Everyone sang along happily and learnt songs like Gako the Frog, Edelweiss and many more! Then we had the race finale which incorporated everything we had learnt during todays act. So we ended the act and everyone looked forward to the orientation act this coming saturday :D

Photos from Structure Games!

This photo of of the contingent practicing for the parade on Total Defence Day.
The image is a bit the slanted, help is appreciated on how to turn the image on blogger :)

Hawk during Chariot Race :D

Sour Grapes. The pole is already placed at a lower height. Yi ming wanted it to be skyhigh but we failed and therefore moved it down :D

Our awesome APL hanyao climbing the pole

Arguable the most awesome image in this post. Hanyao putting the scarf onto the pole! SUCCESS x100000000

Hanyao was scared so he started climbing down.

i seriously have no idea who is climbing. Anyone has a clue?

Our last year AC cook - ZHANG REN!!!

The ex-ex PL of hawk yi ming

The ex pl of hawk Wen Hao :D

Our APL stoning after climbing the pole, visibly stunned by the awesome feat he had just completed!

Ok, thats it for the photos. I will take more the next following acts for memories sake! See you guys soon! :D

Total Defence Day Parade

Today, early early early in the morning we had the total defence day parade. All of UGs came down in their uniforms to commemorate the event :D But, the hawk attendance was not up to par. Only Kaveen, Joshua Chin, Hanyao and myself came down in full uniform. You guys should try checking your emails for such updates next time yeah! Ok so the parade commander Mr Justin Yap was awesome because he shouts like a beast :O Anyways, do look forward to this wednesday's act which is tmr. This will be the sec 1s first formal act so do try to welcome them warmly and get to know them more. We will be playing all the icebreakers we learnt on monday with them. Do try to be as ENTHU as you can!

PS. Hanyao and I expect the attendance to be 100%!

Structure Games! And Sec1s arrival!

Today, we had arguable the best act for this year. It was structured games! At the start, we did the usual procedures and then the rest of the SU except for the pls and apls and other parade-involved-people went to meet jin kiat at the parade square. There, Mr Bernard Low and Mr Raymond Chan with the teacher leading the parade briefed us on the procedures for tmr. ANYWAYS, EVERYONE MUST COME TO SCHOOL TMR IN FSU. But, only parade involved people had to report to the clock tower at 6.50 :\ Sad life :((( So after the long pt for the SU and the briefing for pls and apls, we got to the main activity! We gathered at the horseshoe then the sec1s came along! The j1s announced the patrols they were assigned to. For hawk, we got 3 members named Arif, Raf and Ravook? These are tentative names and we hope to get to know the members better because we had only about 20-30 minutes of interaction with them. They are awesome people indeed, just like everyone in Hawk.

For the main act, there were 3 stations. The first station was Sour Grapes at Gym Hall Atrium Field. The second was the Chariot Race thing at Parade Square. The last station was the Blind Man's Knot thingy. We had it ordered rather nicely 3,2,1. So it was easily remembered. At the 3rd station which we went first, Kevin was there so we reported in with the new sec1s. Then, everyone was to be blind folded with the scarfs that we had brought. The PLs were the sub-station masters and we tied the knots for them to figure out. Since we took so long to get to the station because everyone was getting to know the sec1s better, we had the opportunity to only tie 2 knots which were the Reef and Figure of 8 Knot. After this, we pumped 50 after the sec1s left for a scarf dropped on the floor! SO LESSON LEARNT!

We then went to the second station for the chariot race. We had to tie a A Frame with 4 poles. Then a person had to go and sit on the frame and the rest of the patrol was to carry him to and fro of the Raffles Square. Hawk tied the square lashes very very very fast, faster than the speed of light. And of course Kestrel ^^ So we chionged all the way back and forth, swapping people to sit on the frame. We had 7 + 2 more who had to go again which were myself and Aaron. Our morale went from like "aaron's height" to "daniel yin around there height".

The last station we went to was the sour grapes station. We arrived earlier than the other patrol and Yi Ming thought us some IceBreakers Games for wednesday act! :D. The game sour grapes was quite simple. We had an extremely long pole with a short pole lashed at the top. Then, one by one patrol members were to climb up the pole vertically and hook their scarf at the top. At first, we tied it too long lol so we had to shorten it within reach of our ahem ahem, shorter members of the patrol.

Then Han Yao's phone got confiscated and yi ming passed it to me! :D So hanyao had to beg mercy to me and say that i am the "Supreme Commander of the World" or something like that to get his phone back. I applaud him effort immensely and i feel that everyone in the patrol has to learn from someone like him! :D jkjk. Anyways, we ended act on a high note and we all couldnt wait for the next act to know more about the sec1s!!! :)

FULL ATTENDANCE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TYVM!

FOUBLE aka double the fun!!

So today we had the act called fouble! In the email, it stated the act was named so because we would have loads of fun! Also since this was the last official act before the new sec 1s arrive, it was suppose to be out of this world and absolutely, fantastically and awesomely fun! But it didn't turn out like what we expected. So basically the j1s had many activities planned out for us to do! And they all started with f. (ps. When the j1s announced that everything started with the letter f, everyone started to shriek in laughter unknowingly) anyways the first f was fitness. We all dreaded pt, but they said that this was suppose to be fun pt. We had combined pt of the sec2 and sec3 batches. It was rare to have such occasions like that. We had a bit of running and yi ming just had to call hap horseshoe at the end of the bridge closer to the junior block. The sec3s were lagging behind, trying to support the laggers at the back. Unfortunately, yi Ming started to bole his almightily whistle and everyone started counting. Then we started clearing! So fun right.... We did crunches and pushups. Then more running. We had barely a time to catch our breathes before yi ming sped off again. Then we had guai lan running throughout raja block. Doing some crab walk across raja block up and down the levels. Then yi Ming blew a horseshoe at the base of raja block. Everyone all chiong there like some mad dog. Then we did various exercises to cross the raja field. Including push up walk, leopard crawl, piggy backs and other random variations of exercises invented to hurt the likes of the entire sec 3 batch. We were all aching from head to toe because we crawled over the screwed up grass known as the raja field. After doing so, we had the next f. Footdrill. Sad life ttm. Anyways, my batch did the foot drills at the raffles square. And then moving to the raja block foyer to continue. We learnt some new turn while marching, involving some t, l and v turning sequences. Most of us all struggled to get the new turn correct. After this we had to do the next f. Flagstaff. Hawk and owl paired up in unison to build the flagstaff. My batch always has difficulty with the building of structures. So the flagstaff kind of failed. The top part failed because it was too unstable since the knots were tied too close together. The bottom knot failed too because we tied it with one pole bulging out, thus making the flagstaff rather flimsy. In the end, all of our flagstaffs were not up to par to be erected. Hence, we could not complete the act with the finale, which was the final f. We were suppose to do some war game with some foot drill techniques and the flagstaffs were supposed to be our bases. Also due to the lack of time and the increased time we had to spend on footdrill caused the delay. So we ended act pretty late after keeping all the poles. The sec ones will be arriving into our patrol on Monday. Everyone do welcome them in open arms and we should impart our scouting knowledge to them like how sutc is awesome and how Gtc is too easy for buff people like them. That shall be it for today so see you guys in Monday!

QM Act

On monday we had qm act! So fun! Basically we just cleaned up the entire den and it's other associates like the pole shed and the equipments shed. Since it was Chinese new year, it's also rather appropriate to have the entire den spick and span. Everyone all started to clear up all the random things we had everywhere. Then, some patrols started some pole painting and got their shoes and limbs all covered with our signature red paint! So cool. Then the 02 teacher came with some 02 people and they started to make a big fuss because some of the poles which we took out was theirs. After a very long scolding they left :) so we threw their poles back to where they belonged too. Hanyao and I did some cleaning of the pole shed. To our amazement, there were many earthworms living under the heaps and rotting leaves. Hanyao being hanyao, he started to kill all the earthworms using his all mighty dustpan, chopping them in half and leaving their corpse to rot at a corner. Then we collected lumps and lumps of rotten leaves and other animals, dumping them into a large trash bag. After the den cleaning and pole shed cleaning, we were ordered by the j1s to go to the equipment shed and do some cleaning of the entire area. We took out the tents and other items like our cooking things. We also derusted all of the pegs! It was a very memorable experience, rubbing the pegs up and down and up again. The pegs were very shiny at the end of our fruitful rubbing. I'm just kidding. Yes so after one entire day of cleaning, the entire den was clean, ready to welcome the sec 1s on Monday!

GL Act aka The Winner Loses

Since the J1s werent around because of orientation, the PLs got to plan the act! It started off pretty good except for the horseshoe discipline being rather *ahem*. Anyways, the PLs got to lead patrol PT which was rather fun. Hawk did some static exercises and other random things like playing a little bit of basketball :D Therefore, it shows that hawk is an awesome patrol :) We did the PT for around 30-40 mins. After which, we gathered back at Gym Hall Atrium for Patrol Meeting, a chance when everyone could talk about important stuff and things like that.

Then, the real act started with the PLs briefing the SU. It was formally known as the Winner Loses but *ahem* we did not really want to tell the SU about it because 01 encourages every patrol to try their best to win! So we had 3 different stations, with half an hour allocated per station. We have the GL Quiz, GL Show and GL Game. The name sounds rather weird but the PLs can assure everyone that the stations are actually fun! So after all the games, we gathered back at the horseshoe and announced the name of the act to the SU. So since Eagle won, they pumped. With Jon Weng being extra, he started doing clap push-ups but in the end got apprehended by Qie Hua :) So act ended and everyone was happy!

Pass It On

Today, we were had the act called PASS IT ON (: So after the horseshoe, we had a sad farewell to Mr Yuen and other teachers. After which, we were told to report to the Junior Block Atrium top floor.
Since the act was called Pass It On, it obviously meant campfire songs since Pass It On was sung at every campfire. So everyone learnt all the new songs and did all the random hand motions and stuff. In fact, the mood was rather awesome until we ended and the J1s told us to report at the junior block atrium, bringing along our FSU.

From this part onwards, its just pure ownage of the entire SU.

So after reporting, we had changing parade. First time, we were given 2 and a half minutes to change. However, we arrived in 7. So we got to pump again and again. After which, we were given 2 minutes to change out. And then, another 4 minutes again to change back into FSU. We kept pumping because we exceeded and also because some people did not do their push-ups properly. So everyone was exhausted and our moral dropped to a all time low.

After all the changing in and out, they told us that they would check our uniform. Then, we got to pump for our mistakes. We reported to the Raja block after that and we commenced some sort of a lesson on horseshoe etiquette. Basically, it was some marching within the horseshoe and then some basic routines at the flagstaff lowering. So then we ended act with a smile on our faces. Im kidding.

Upgrading Works

So today we had UPGRADING WORKS act. After attendance taking and so on, we had STATION GAMES. Basically, we had 6 stations.

1. Yen Ter's Footdrill Thing
Hawk was made to march aimlessly around the raffles square in some random formation like a question mark.

2. Boon King's Basha Building
Hawk was made to build a basha with the materials which we had brought. The groundsheet that we had which too small so it made our basha look kind of funny. We made a mistake by not threading through the top of the groundsheet.

3. Kevin's Fire Making
I must say Hawk got a bit lost because the place which we had to go was behind the temple. So we were late and had to share a fire with KF. Joshua burned twine and it actually worked.

4. Ming Lun's Square Lashing
Hawk VS Owl. Most epic showdown but eventually Hawk won :D. Well in fact our square lashing skills are crap now so we must make sure that we must practice!

Then sadly, we stopped because of the lack of time. We also pumped for the mistakes we made during footdrills. So after that, we had some awesome RACE. Hawk ended up 3rd but its ok because everyone had a lot of fun. I must say this act was really fun and it bonded our patrol together alot (:

Proficiency Badge Planning

Yay so we had proficiency badge planning this act. Apparently, these badges were largely ignored during the past years and the GC really wanted 01 to focus on these badges again. We were supposed to have 4 badges completed in a year, by going through rather random tests and other requirements.
When we gathered in the classroom, the GC briefed us and then we were given the opportunity to look through all the badges and their requirements. Some of them quite GL and therefore unsuitable for Hawk.
We also had personal, batch goal planning sessions during the act. After that, we had some small fire making act.  Not too bad except for the lack of more fuel. Other than that, act was great.

p.s. Patrol Goals are listed a few posts earlier.

"Intended" QM Session

Act was suppose to be some QM Session, but it was raining heavily so the J1s got other ideas. Could be good, could be bad. But it actually turned out very bad. They decided to have some 3 hour PT thing and make everyone die. So after PL pumping and attendance, we broke off into batches for PT.....
Sadly, Sec 3 PT was rather horrible and played many random crappy games. Such as 100 plus and 7 up revive -.-''. So well, after Pt, we gathered back at horseshoe and we were instructed to go to the tennis courts for proper act.

We had in total 3 stations, again physical stations. We had the sit-ups station first. YOUR PL GOT BEATEN BY THE APL BY 1. Hanyao did 85 while I did 84. But the most zai of all is Joshua. Some 90+ imba thing. Anyways, moving on... We did some running station thing. We ran around the nets of the tennis court in pairs, holding a tennis ball. We had 3 pairs while Owl had 4. Which meant that Hawk had lesser resting time. But still, we were more zai than Owl. We had the push-up station next. Hawk won again :D But we did 43 and not more because Yen Ter came to disturb us halfway through. Act ended on a not so happy mood but we felt much buff-er than before already.
